Baby Face

It’s been a while since the last baby update, but all is going well. We’ve been to the doctor a lot lately due to Charlie’s two vessel umbilical cord. Pretty much every week we have either an ultra-sound to check his growth or a non-stress test to monitor his heart and movements. Thankfully none of these things have indicated any problems thus far. While his growth is a little behind average, it’s happening at a good enough pace to satisfy the doctors.

Today’s ultrasound was pretty fun. For one, we learned that our baby is very short (big surprise). The doctor says that the head and stomach are what he really pays attention to as bone length can vary so much by family. And Charlie has a lot of short bone genes going on. We also got some really good pictures of Charlie’s face! We were sitting there looking at the fuzzy cross section views that we’ve gotten so used to when all of the sudden the ultra-sound tech whips out some fancy 3-D picture of our baby! Why haven’t they done this before now?!

So here is our ultra-cute baby:

Hooray for the Holidays!

Tonight I am updating our blog while enjoying the flickering and crackeling of the Netflix fireplace. I love how Christmas makes our home feel so cozy.

A place to lay his head

Baby update: The crib is complete! Well, not really. It still needs a mattress. And some sheets. And a baby to go in it. But our one major piece of baby furniture has been assembled and kind of fits in our bedroom. I now feel like I am ready to go into full on nesting mode and totally rearrange our house. I’m not sure if Chris will like this stage of pregnancy…

Happy Birthday Mabelle!

Oh Boy!

It's a Boy!

We had the long anticipated is-it-a-boy-or-a-girl ultrasound today. And…..it’s a boy! Now I will get to learn what in the world little boys do if they aren’t playing dress-up, or ballerina, or Barbies, or fairy princess. Since I grew up as a little girl, and only had little girl siblings, that’s all I really knew. It should be fun!

In other less exciting, but probably more important news, our baby has all four limbs, a heart, kidneys, a bladder, and a brain. The baby is on track with his (Hey, I can use a pronoun now!) growth and has a strong manly heartbeat. The one abnormality in the ultrasound was with the umbilical cord. Apparently most umbilical cords have three vessels, but they only saw two on mine. I am going to a specialist with a bigger and better machine in a couple of weeks to see if the third vessel is actually there, or if there are indeed only two. The doctor said that generally two vessels don’t cause problems, but it could affect the baby’s growth. If there are only two vessels it would mean a lot more ultrasounds and monitoring until the baby is born.
